Frequent Actions

• Open group contextual menu
  • Control + click (or right click) anywhere inside a group
  • Or click on the white triangle in the top right corner of the group
• Open a new group
  • From the menu bar: Group > New Group
  • Or from the group contextual menu: New Group
  • The new group follows the mouse cursor, click on the screen to position the new group
• Rename a group
  • Double click on the title of the group
  • Or click inside the group, then select from the menu bar: Group > Rename Group...
• Close a group
  • From the group contextual menu: Close Group (or white triangle in top right)
  • Or from the menu bar: Group > Close Group
  • Files from the group will be moved back to the Desktop
• Rename a file inside a group
  • Select the file
  • Press Enter
  • Type the new name
  • Press Enter to confirm, Esc to cancel
• Change the order of files
  • Drag files in any order you like
• Move a file to Trash
  • Drag the file to the Trash in the Dock
• Open Quick Look for a file
  • Select the file and press Space or Command + Y
• See where a file is saved in Finder
  • Control + click on the file
  • Select Show in Finder from the contextual menu

Settings

• Choose between dock and menu bar icon
  • Open the preferences via the menu bar: Desktop Groups > Preferences...
• Have groups remain visible during Mission Control/Expose/Show Desktop gesture
  • Open the preferences via the menu bar: Desktop Groups > Preferences...
  • Please note that there are some side effects (group windows overlap desktops in Mission Control and notification area)
• Change the icon size, color, opacity, reflexions, etc.
  • Open the group contextual menu
  • Select Show View Options
• Use a list view
  • From the View Options, set the label position to "right"
• Change groups folder location
  • You can move the folder "Desktop Groups" in Finder to another location
  • Changes are detected automatically
  • Don't change the folder name (must be named "Desktop Groups")

Drag & Drop

• Drop one or more files into a group
  • Files/folders are moved to the group folder (kept inside the "Desktop Groups" folder )
  • Files being dragged must be on the same volume as the group folder
  • To reveal the file in Finder, Control + click it and select Show in Finder
• Drag file/folder away from a group and drop into Finder or on the Desktop
  • Moves the file/folder to the new location
• Drag a file from a group into another application (e.g. Mail, TextEdit)
  • Depends on the application; probably inserts the file (e.g. as Mail attachment)
